Burns Night Rally Wollaston School
22nd-24th January 2010
Marshals : Shaz & Mark Jenkins
Once again on the Friday evening - to quote from Winnie the Pooh “the rain rain rain came down down down in rushing rolling rivlets” I’m getting quite a reputation for precipitation!
Did it dampen anything!! “No it didn’t”
It demonstrated size doesn’t matter, we had just 10 vans booked in, & proved what I always say “being small is wonderful” I’m sure Malc agrees too!
Friday evening everyone had their fill of warm punch & toast from Daph’s Cafe! When all the catching up had been done not having been out since their last rally in 2009, it was way passed Richards bedtime!
The Saturday night social began with Robbie Burns Selkirk Grace & a whisky toast to the Haggis & then we had a wee tasty of the beastie, followed by bowls my homemade Scotch broth soup. It was time then to tax the ralliers knowledge of Scotland…well....there was no stopping Marge Arch! she was the centres female version of ‘Magus Magnusson’! Though I levelled the playing field when I threw a timed round in of naming the 50 American States. But tell me how can Arkansas be pronounced Arkansaw & Kansas not be pronounced Kansaw??
The McHills & McWrights team won the booby prize, though only just from the McFosters & new ralliers McRyves team. McRoberts,McHawkes & McRandall team came second with the McArches & McClarkes winning.
It was time then for the kilts (yes, there were a few) to fly in the gay gordons! I was the youngest on the rally!!..I had just about heard of the music I was playing!! (most of which was supplied by Sue- grateful thanks) All the old centre favourites were played & the inhalers were shared by all!! I’m sure it was Richard who started the progressive dancing!!
It was so nice to see that everyone stayed until almost midnight each evening, & Daph, Malc, Mark & I really appreciated the nice comments we received from all present.
It just goes to show that with a couple of slow cooks (no not Malc & Daph!) a microwave & a music centre from home you can do wonders. Daph even did popcorn in the micky on Saturday night!
My thanks go to the ‘X’ for doing the flag, & Daph, Malc, Mark & I look forward to seeing all those present at our Valentines rally on the 12th-14th Feb at Wrenn School. Please don’t worry about the rain on the Friday night!!
