10/01 – BURNS RALLY – Jan 21^st – 23^rd 2011

It’s always nice to get out on the 1^st rally of the new season & meet up with old friends.  Friday night we all enjoyed a warming glass of mulled wine & mountains of toast & toppings, so guess some of those “I will not drink” & “I must diet” New Year resolutions went to pot!

The Saturday evening social was again a lot of fun & a late finisher this year! & looked great dressed in reds, greens & tartans!

Surprisingly everyone tried our freshly micky waved Haggis! (not for the faint hearted!) The slow cooks were full to the brim of my homemade Cock a Leekie soup, which soon filled hungry tummies!  It wasn’t an easy task removing all the pearl barley out of Fergie’s bowlful, I can tell you!

We then began a simple game of Haggis drive (so I thought – how wrong was I!)

Simples! The people with the lowest & highest scores were to move to the next table.  The trouble was nobody knew their left from their right!  Knowing left from right sank in after the 3^rd game!!  It’s surprising the budding artists that the Centre has, there were some most creative Haggis being drawn.  Geoff Beddoe (surprise, surprise) had the lowest score of the night!

After a chat & a drinky or two, we had a game of ‘things beginning with a certain letter’ Girlies V Boys! or should that be Ladies V Old Codgers!

Well, talk about disputes, challenges & suggestions from Godfrey & Richard that are best forgotten! & not to mentioning the down right cheating!  The old codgers won, but chivalry prevailed & they donated the chocolates to the raffle.

The evening concluded around midnight after dancing to some Scottish music (a rather bad attempt at the gay Gordon’s) & old Centre favourites. 

At flag, Daph & Malc, Geoff & Sylvia were presented with their 20 rally fellowship vouchers.

 I would like to thank Daph & Malc for being my assistants once again, Pat for doing flag & it was so nice to be able to say “See you all again at our Valentines rally”
