Dear Members
I would like to thank Barry and the retiring Committee for all the hard work they have done over the last few years, it has enabled the transition from the ‘Old’ to the ‘New’ Committee so much easier. I am sure that with a new Treasurer, Hon Rally Sec, Sports Officer & Web Master, we will see the introduction of new ideas & the means to encourage more members to take up rallying. Midge & I attended our first rally with the N&R in 1994, together with our young daughters Kim & Charlotte, we had such a good time at the Wood Green Animal Sanctuary, it wasn’t long before most of our weekends were spent on a rally field.
Looking back, Midge & I feel the attraction to rallying was not only the friendliness, the value for money or the sociability, but the knowledge that we always knew where our children were & that they were safe among new found friends. Kim went on to be Vice Chairperson of the Juniors & Charlotte to be Junior Chairperson. Even today, the friends they made on the rally field are still in touch with them. We believe that along with other Junior Committee members this gave them the confidence and responsibility to achieve goals in their lives that we and the Centre are very proud of. I hope with my New Committee, we can attract a few more families into the Centre & once again have a Junior Section.
In planning rallies we try to cover all tastes. Rallies take place at all sorts of venues from local fields, scenic venues like Rutland Water, to stately homes. You can do as little or as much as you like from sitting & relaxing to joining in a range of social activities, which may include:- sports (English & Welsh Nationals) caravan reversing (at present we have one of top reversing teams in England and Wales), fishing, golf, discos, quizzes, & barbeques etc. This coupled with the fact that you are never far from a helping hand should you need one makes rallying a relaxing & worry free pastime.
Midge & I have made many friends through rallying over the years, and look forward to seeing you all out on the rally field during the coming season.
