Lyndon Top, Manton - Centre Golf Challenge
23rd– 25th July 2010
Marshalls Shaz & Mark Jenkins

Quote from rally programme “A friendly competition for the magnificent & highly sort after prestigious STAN HAGER trophy, the N&R equivalent to the ‘Open Championship’ This trophy will adorn & be admired in your caravan through the coming year”.

My thanks go to Steve Goose who ‘pegged out’ for me.  This must have been one of the first N&R rallies where the Marshal arrived last!!

The weather was pleasantly sunny throughout the whole weekend (think I’ve finally lost the jinx for having rain on the Friday nights!)

All Ralliers could see the tension the golf competitors were under & that the nerves were starting to fray on the Friday evening! Stan started to limp & called for a physio, Geoff fretted when he discovered he had forgotten his balls & pitch marker!  Mark went very quiet & just sat & cuddled the ‘Stan Hager’ trophy all evening like he was saying goodbye to an old friend.

The weather conditions were perfect for the early morning start on the Saturday; less can be said for the conditions of Stan, Geoff & Mark.  It had been rather a late night finish by the time our awning emptied from the night before. They returned not knowing the result which was to be a closely guarded secret until flag on Sunday! Mark ignored all bribes!!

We had a bonus event on Saturday evening as the Virgin hot air balloon went up from the next field, quite an exciting experience to watch.

The boule competition followed & was fearlessly contested, the play offs were played under flood light (well torch light!) Mark & I won with John & Hilary Kerr (Leics) 2nd, Steve & Jan Goose 3rd & Geoff & Sylvia Beddoe 4th

The time finally came when the results of the Golf Challenge were revealed.  There was only ONE point between 1st & 2nd place with the honours going this year to a very surprised Geoff Beddoe, Mark Jenkins was runner up & Stan Hager a commendable 3rd.

I would like to thank all those who attended especially, the visitors from the Leics, Mid Anglia & Hertfordshire Centres for joining in & making a rally be what it should be “FUN!!”
